BETTER IS POSSIBLE

We are inspiring change in school food by freely sharing our knowledge of what works well, both in kitchens and classrooms, to schools across the country. We are led by some of the UK’s foremost experts in food policy and education, and chefs who support our efforts.

WHAT WORKS WELL

We are building The Hackney School of Food – a community cookery school, set on the grounds of Mandeville Community School. Here, the building blocks of a healthy food culture will be formed with children, young people and their families from across inner city London gaining hands-on experience of how to grow their own produce and cook affordable, healthy and balanced meals.

We will also offer professional training programmes, which will open up job opportunities in food, and specifically school food, for individuals taking part, helping to break down barriers between sectors.

The designs will be freely available to other schools and communities to convert disused buildings into cookery teaching spaces at low cost. Please get in touch if you would like to know more at hello@chefsinschools.org.uk
